JSC “Sintez-Kauchuk” and “Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant” contributed to the improvement of the ecological situation at water bodies in Sterlitamak district during the flood period.

Over 50 cubic meters of activated sludge were purchased and delivered to maintain the effective operation of biological treatment facilities at Federal State-owned Enterprise “Avangard” where industrial wastewater from petrochemical enterprises is treated.

- There are many different ways to treat wastewater. One of the biological types of treatment is activated sludge, - Anatoly Kusakin, head of the environmental protection department of “TAU PetroChem Management” LLC, explained. - When using it, organic and inorganic substances are removed from wastewater. The method is based on the basic law of nature: in order to survive, all living organisms must eat. Some need plants, others need animals, and yet others feed on harmful and toxic substances. It is the active biomass consisting of living microorganisms feeding on pollutants that is able to cope with large volumes of wastewater. The advantage of the method is that the process is fully automated, it does not use chemicals and therefore does not harm the environment.

After "acclimatizing" in a new environment, bacteria begin to feed intensively thus maintaining the efficiency of treatment facilities.
